Residents in Bridgend County Borough are reminded to stay safe this week as celebrations for Halloween and Bonfire night get underway.
A number of events are being held across the county borough in the coming week to celebrate the autumnal festivities with fireworks displays and parties put on by local organisations, town and community councils.
The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS), which provides public protection, environmental health and licensing services for Bridgend, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan councils, has recorded a podcast focusing on Halloween safety as well as a guide for businesses wishing to stage fireworks displays.
The SRS is also encouraging people who are planning to celebrate fireworks night to attend organised firework displays. However, where this is not possible, people are urged to purchase fireworks from recognised online and high street retailers. There are a number of risks connected with purchasing fireworks from non-reputable retailers where, if they do not meet relevant safety standards, they could cause serious harm.
After a difficult 18 months for us all, many people will be looking forward to attending some of the exciting autumnal events that have been lined up across the county borough.
In celebrating, we urge people to stay safe and be mindful of others, being aware that for some people in our communities, Halloween and Bonfire Night can bring added stress, anxiety and fear.

Some of the events that are taking place across the county borough organised by clubs, businesses and town and community councils include:
- Porthcawl: On 5 November, the Hi Tide Inn will be hosting their annual fireworks display. Admission is free and the bar will be open for meals and drinks as well as hot dogs and burgers. The event starts at 7.30pm
- Pyle: The rugby club will be putting on a Bonfire Night fireworks display on 5 November. Entry costs £3 and the event kicks off at 7pm.
- Pencoed: Felindre Road playing fields will host Pencoed town council’s annual free fireworks display on 5 November at 6.15pm. Please note, no sparklers are allowed.
- Maesteg: The Rotary Club of Maesteg have organised their annual fireworks display at Maesteg rugby club. The event starts at 7.30pm.
- Cefn Cribwr: The Riders Annual free firework display gets underway at Cae Gof on 5 November at 6pm
- Llangewydd Arms: A laser show will be displayed at Llangewydd Arms on 6 November. The display starts at 7pm and entry costs £5.
