Tourist attractions in Newport will be taking part in the annual Open Doors event organised by Cadw which allows the public free admission on certain days.

Newport Transporter Bridge, which earlier this year was awarded £1 million Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant towards repairing and maintaining the iconic structure, will be open to the public for free on Sunday, 23 September.

Visitors can ride on the gondola and go over the top of the bridge from 10am, with the last admission to the higher levels at 4pm, as the bridge will close at 5pm.

Members of the Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge will be on hand to urge the public to take part in a crowdfunding campaign to raise £100,000.

The money needs to be raised to show the HLF there is community support to go for the second round of the HLF funding bid and to attract extra funding in the form of grants.

Newport Wetlands is also taking part in the Cadw event on Saturday, 29 September with a variety of events set up for the day.

The site is owned and managed by Natural Resources Wales, working in partnership with RSPB Cymru, Newport City Council and others for the benefit of wildlife and people.

Cadw’s Caerleon Baths, Ampitheatre and Barracks will also be open for tours on Saturday and Sunday, 29 & 30 September as part of the Open Day project. There will be daily tours at 11am, 1pm and 3pm starting from the Fortress Baths.
