The Royal Mint announces regular autism-friendly tours

The Royal Mint Experience

The Royal Mint Experience based in Llantrisant, South Wales, has today announced a monthly autism-friendly tour in support of World Autism Acceptance Week.

On the first Sunday of every month, starting from May, the award-winning visitor attraction will host autism-friendly tours to accommodate those with autism by reducing sensory triggers. The exhibition volume will be reduced wherever possible and lighting neutralised to make the experience a more comfortable environment.

The sessions will also have a reduced capacity to ensure no one feels overcrowded, and tours will be extended to provide additional time to process information in each room of the experience. Hard copies of the tour notes will also be made available to those who wish to read the information.

As part of The Royal Mint’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, tour guides will also undertake autism awareness training to provide extra support and plenty of information upfront to autistic guests.

Dan Johnson, Visitor Attraction Manager at The Royal Mint Experience, said: “We are proud to announce the new regular autism-friendly tours on the first Sunday of every month going forward. It’s important to us that all guests have a great experience and that we can cater to specific needs. Our tour guides are brilliant at accommodating any requests on a standard tour but having these dedicated sessions can give people additional piece of mind before they visit.”

The autism-friendly tours will be held on the first Sunday of every month between starting from 1st May.
