If your waggy-tailed pooch has the looks, style and personality of a star performer then this could be the animal’s big chance to shine on stage.

Wales based theatre producers Matthew Revell-Griffiths Ltd are currently preparing for a run of The Wizard of Oz at Port Talbot’s Princess Royal Theatre from Sunday, October 24th to Tuesday, October 26th and the search is on to find Toto!

In the show, based on the iconic 1939 movie the Wizard of Oz (an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz), Dorothy Gale and her faithful dog Toto are whisked over the rainbow to the magical land of Oz.

In her quest to return home, Dorothy encounters a host of enchanting characters and finds new friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. They follow the Yellow Brick Road, mercilessly pursued by the Wicked Witch of the West, to the magical Emerald City in search of the mysterious and almighty Wizard of Oz.

Featuring song favourites including Over The Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and We’re Off To See The Wizard, the show promises to be a treat for theatre goers of all ages.

The search for a dog to play the role of Toto gets under way at The Princess Royal Theatre, Civic Centre, Port Talbot (SA13 1PJ) on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 – registration begins at 10am.

If your dog has what it takes to ‘bow-wow’ audiences then email [email protected] (with the subject Pup Idol) with the dog’s name and photo, owner’s name and contact telephone number. The chosen dogs must be available from 23rd to 26th October, 2021 for rehearsals and performances.

Show Producer, Matthew Revell-Griffiths, said: “I am so excited to be bringing Pup Idol – the search for Toto to Port Talbot as part of our autumn tour of the Wizard of Oz. It’s a brilliant production with a strong cast to deliver this up-to-date family adventure of the classic story…all we need now is a Toto!”

Tickets for the Wizard of Oz production can be booked on The Princess Royal Theatre’s website www.princessroyaltheatre.com and also over the phone at its Box Office (01639 763214). The Box Office phone line is open weekdays between 10am-midday and 1pm-4pm.
