The South West Wales Corporate Joint Committee (SWW CJC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark John, co-founder of Tramshed Tech, as Chair of its Private Sector Advisory Board.

The SWW CJC was formally established in 2022 to strengthen economic prosperity across the region.

It is made up of the Leaders of Carmarthenshire Council, Neath Port Talbot Council, Pembrokeshire Council and Swansea Council, as well as senior representatives of the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire National Park Authorities.

The committee will build on strong regional working foundations already in place in South West Wales as well as enabling a unified, regional approach to key sectors including transport, energy and economic development to benefit local people, businesses and visitors.

As Chair of the Private Sector Advisory Board, Mark will lead a team of dynamic private sector experts who will work closely with regional leaders to ensure the voice of business is central to decision-making and future planning.

Mark brings to the role a wealth of experience in business leadership and regional collaboration across Wales and the UK with a demonstrated history of working at a senior strategic level in the online digital, media and technology sector.

He is the co-founder of Tramshed Tech, a leading Welsh business and innovation hubs network that connects emerging technology, digital and creative companies with the workspaces, business growth support and skills training they need to scale and succeed.

Operating across five strategic locations in Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and Barry, Tramshed Tech provides flexible co-working spaces, private offices and state-of-the-art meeting and event facilities.

The organisation delivers comprehensive business growth programmes and skills training workshops in partnership with  leading UK funding bodies including the British Business Bank, Barclays Eagle Labs, the Welsh Government and multiple Welsh local authorities.

His appointment marks a significant step in strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors to ensure South West Wales remains competitive and resilient in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

Mark said: “Having recently opened our new Tramshed Tech location in the iconic Palace Theatre building in Swansea, I’m honoured to now be appointed Chair of the Private Sector Advisory Board for the SWW CJC at such a pivotal time for South West Wales.

“The region has enormous potential, and I look forward to working with partners across a range of sectors to champion innovation, attract investment and support sustainable growth.

“As an expert advisory board, we aim to provide strategic insight in supporting the growth of the region to become more prosperous, greener and better connected in the coming years.”

Cllr Rob Stewart, Chair of the South West Wales CJC, said: “Mark’s appointment demonstrates a significant step in strengthening the CJC’s commitment to collaborative working between the public and private sector.

“His leadership will be invaluable and will help ensure South West Wales thrives for the benefit of both its businesses and communities in a rapidly changing economic landscape.”
