Risca residents have voted to keep the Ty Darran name for its new later living scheme.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is working with construction expert Willmott Dixon to deliver the innovative 45 apartment development on the site of the former Ty Darran care home, which is scheduled for completion in autumn this year.

The new ‘Ty Darran’ will become home to residents from existing sheltered housing schemes in the locality that are programmed for closure.  Future residents and the wider community took part in a survey to choose a name for the new development, with 67% of people voting to retain the recent history of the site by keeping the care home name.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “Firstly I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in the consultation.  We know that this site holds fond memories for many people, and we have been committed from the outset to ensuring the community remain at the heart of this development.

“This is a flagship scheme for the Council and will be unlike anything we’ve delivered before, combining innovative energy saving solutions with elegant design features and flexible spaces to meet residents’ needs.

“Work is really progressing now, and we look forward to welcoming residents to Ty Darran.”
