A mighty red dragon has flown into Cardiff Bay and is making Mermaid Quay its lair until Sunday 7 November 2021.

Towering over Tacoma Square, the fearsome dragon is 15-metre-long and 6-metre-tall dragon.  The largest animatronic dragon in the UK, it has arrived in time for half term and is free to view.

Featuring a moving head and tail, opening and closing eyes, life-like breathing movements, along with a terrifying roar and smoky breath, visitors to Mermaid Quay will be among the first in the world to see this ‘roarsome’ beast.

To celebrate the dragon’s arrival, Mermaid Quay has a host of dragon-themed activities and competitions to take part in, including a fire-breathing Instagram filter, free dragon face painting (weekends only) and a dragon ride for kids.

There’s also lots to be won including £50 worth of dragon goodies in a Design a Dragon competition and free ice-cream for an entire year from Cadwaladers Mermaid Quay in its dragon-themed Treasure Hunt.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, visitors could be in with the chance of winning a ‘roarsome’ rugby day out with four tickets to see Wales take on Australia in the Principality Stadium on Saturday 20 November, a meal for four at Hub Box Cardiff and Aquabus tickets to travel to the game in style up for grabs. To win, visitors need to head down to Mermaid Quay to find out the name of its mighty red dragon and then enter on the website.

Mermaid Quay centre manager Simon Whiting said: “We’re excited to be the first in the world to host this massive dragon. It is really quite special and the closest thing possible to a real-life Welsh dragon.  Head down to see it in person, grab a bite to eat at one of fabulous restaurants, cafés and bars and take part in all of our dragon-themed fun on offer.”
