The University Hospital of Wales will shine bright throughout Cardiff this Christmas bringing light and joy to patients, staff, visitors and the local community.

The Shine Bright Appeal organised by Cardiff & Vale Health Charity hopes to raise £30,000 with local companies, schools and individuals sponsoring their own personalised light up star which will be fixed to the outer walls at the hospital.

A light switch on event will be held on Monday 29th November at 5pm where we will be joined by Howell’s school choir and Birchgrove Primary school choir. The lights will be illuminated throughout December for everyone to enjoy over the Christmas period.

Shield Services Group is the main event sponsor of the Shine Bright Appeal at the University Hospital of Wales this year.

Shield has worked in partnership with the University Hospital of Wales and surrounding hospitals for over seven years, removing various types of asbestos throughout all buildings.

Luke House, Chairman of Shield Services Group, said, “We are so happy to become a supporter of the Shine Bright Appeal and help to strengthen the beacon of light that focuses on patients, visitors, staff and the local community.  The past 18-months have been really tough, and we hope that our support can make a difference”.

Money raised through this appeal will not only  help to provide more equipment, research, and patient care but will also enable Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to support work and projects benefitting staff, patients and visitors across our hospital and community settings.

Barry Lewis, Asbestos Branch Manager – Cardiff, commented, “We have had a great relationship with Owen Davies, Estates Health, Safety and Asbestos Support Officer, Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, who for over 20 years has been managing all of the asbestos works for the Health Board.  It feels right to provide additional support for the Shine Bright Appeal”.

Georgina Burke, Senior Fundraiser for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity said “The stars are a great visual reminder of the wonderful support Cardiff and Vale University Health Board receives from the local community. We would like to say a huge thank you to Shield Services Group for becoming our main sponsor and to everyone else who is sponsoring a star for the Shine Bright Appeal this year.
