Urdd Gobaith Cymru opens office at Canolfan S4C Yr Egin

At the heart of the creative sector in south-west Wales, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin, located on the Carmarthen campus of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, inspires creativity and imagination, and cultivates talent for the future.

The Urdd will join a range of other tenants as it settles in at Yr Egin, S4C’s headquarters and home to a number of production, design and translation companies.

The Urdd’s new office is home to the Urdd Myrddin team and is also used by a number of the organisation’s staff and departments from across the region, including the Eisteddfod and Sports department, and is a useful place for Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire arts officers to meet. Since opening an office at Yr Egin, the Urdd has successfully made maximum use of the centre’s facilities, including rapid connectivity, professional streaming, and opportunities to collaborate.

Siân Lewis, Chief Executive of Urdd Gobaith Cymru, said:

“We are proud to have opened a new office at Yr Egin centre, Carmarthen. Here’s an opportunity for our staff to collaborate more closely with all the companies and organisations located at the site in the hope of holding various joint activities, whilst taking advantage of, and using the building’s modern and innovative resources. We look forward to developing the partnership and strengthening our provision and opportunities for children and young people into the future.”

Indeed, this is already being implemented; a remarkably successful workshop on Sound Effects for Film and an art exhibition have already been held, and we unceasingly look forward to holding a FIFA tournament at the end of the summer holidays.

As Carmarthenshire looks forward to welcoming the Urdd National Eisteddfod next year and preparations for competing and performing are under way the length and breadth of the county, the office at Yr Egin is sure to get busy once more.

Carys Ifan, Director of Canolfan S4C Yr Egin said: “Being able to welcome the Urdd to Yr Egin is particularly good news; they are a superb addition to the creative community that already works here. We look forward to supporting the movement in its mission to offer Welsh language opportunities for children and young people that fully complement Yr Egin’s vision to raise the status of the Welsh language and its culture in Carmarthen and the adjacent region in a public, contemporary and exciting way.”
