Work has officially begun on a major development that will create a modern, sustainable home for Nelson Primary School, bringing all pupils together on a single site.
The project will support the continued development of Nelson Primary School, which currently operates across the former Llancaeach Junior and Llanfabon Infants sites.
Through the expansion and refurbishment of the existing Llanfabon site, the scheme will enhance provision for children aged 3 to 11, creating capacity for 275 pupils alongside nursery provision.
The development will also include a new childcare unit within the Llanfabon site, providing 24 childcare places.
As part of the scheme, Key Stage 2 pupils aged 7 to 11, who are currently taught at the Llancaeach site, will relocate to new classrooms at the extended Llanfabon site, allowing the school to operate from a single location.
The extension will combine traditional and modern construction methods to create a vibrant learning environment for pupils and the wider community. It is also designed to provide a highly sustainable, 21st century educational setting, bringing together early years and primary education on one site while supporting the long term future of Nelson Primary School.
The project is being delivered through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, a joint investment by Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Welsh Government, which is transforming education facilities across the county borough.

Alongside delivering the new school, Andrew Scott Ltd says it is committed to creating lasting social value throughout the construction programme.
Working with Caerphilly County Borough Council, local schools and community stakeholders, the project will provide apprenticeships, traineeships, work placements and careers engagement activities to encourage more young people to consider careers in construction and the built environment.
The company also plans to maximise local employment and supply chain opportunities, while supporting community initiatives and educational engagement programmes to ensure the project delivers wider benefits alongside the new school facilities.
