Work to prepare for the development of a new transport interchange in Welshpool has begun.
The Welsh Government funded scheme will see a new transport interchange incorporating a bus station, car parking, a taxi rank and large covered bike shelter, built in Welshpool. Ideally situated in the current Church Street carpark, this new development is close to the town centre, with easy access to the shops, the tourist information centre, toilets, and train station.
“The location and layout of this exciting new transport interchange has been developed through close consultation with the towns key stakeholders.” explains Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Highways.
“Investing in, and improving, the transport infrastructure throughout Powys is of the upmost importance for our residents, businesses and to enhance the experiences of our many tourists. With such close proximity to the town centre and other transport links the new development will be perfectly placed for encouraging more visitors to the beautiful town of Welshpool.”
Local Powys company, SWG Construction, have been appointed to deliver the project, with work to clear the site having already begun. The majority of the works will be completed within the next few months, with the aim of having the new interchange fulling functioning by early May.

Whilst the works take place, Church Street car park will have a limited number of parking spaces available, however there is ample parking available in the nearby Berriew Street car park.
