Work on £1.4m Glenboi pumping station upgrade progressing well

RCT Council has provided an update on the major £1.4m works to upgrade the pumping station at Glenboi.

The scheme will alleviate flooding at a known low point in the road – to increase the capacity of the system to cope with heavy rainfall in storm events, and to reduce flows to a downstream culvert.

Work started in March 2023, and work is progressing well towards completion in August.

Construction of the large new storm water storage chamber is now complete, along with connections to existing drainage systems and the installation of a new control kiosk.

In the next few weeks, the contractor will install a new maintenance vehicle lay-by area next to the well and finish site works such as fencing and land reinstatement.

The installation of mechanical and electrical assets will also be completed, along with finishing works to the outlet headwall.

The Council will provide a further update once this investment scheme is nearing completion.

The scheme is benefitting from an 85% contribution (more than £1.2m) from Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Capital Programme.
