Work set to begin on new Porthcawl supermarket

Aldi have confirmed that preparatory work on the new supermarket at Salt Lake in Porthcawl began on 25 April 2022.

To ensure that the store can be constructed safely and with a minimum of inconvenience, temporary boundary fencing will be erected around the site.

Throughout the works, public car parking will remain available at Salt Lake and at Hillsboro Place, which is directly opposite the construction site.

Bridgend County Borough Council have also expressed an interest in constructing an all-new multi-storey car park nearby during future stages of Porthcawl’s regeneration plans.

The design for the new store will feature a ‘wave’ motif and use distinctive wood and limestone materials to create a landmark gateway to the town.

When complete, the site will be extensively landscaped and will include elements of public art. It will also feature 114 car parking spaces, including five designated blue badge spaces and seven parent and child parking spaces.

In addition, the new development will provide four ‘live’ electric vehicle charging points and include provision for 20 more.

It is anticipated that the new Aldi store will open in Autumn 2023.

    • Look out for further updates as the work progresses.
