The Newport Food Festival can announce that Wynne Evans will be joining us at this year’s festival as a special guest.

Wynne was recently crowned Celebrity MasterChef 2023 winner and will be showcasing his skills in the chef demo zone on the Saturday, cooking a celebration of Wales for reaching the World Cup quarter finals, Bread of Evans! Dan Lydiate’s Welsh black beef on fried sourdough with laverbread mash and a fondant leek.

The star of stage, radio and television will also be judging the final of the Teen Chef competition.

Wynne is a familiar face and voice on TV and radio, having rose to prominence playing the spoof opera singer Gio Compario in a series of advertisements for Go Compare.

He also presents the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Wales, and has been an accomplished opera singer for over 25 years, with a career that has seen him perform across the globe.

Wynne said: “I am thrilled to bring my passion for cooking to the Newport Food Festival on Saturday 14th October, where I’ll be sharing my culinary journey and showcasing some delectable dishes. Winning Celebrity MasterChef was a dream come true, and I can’t wait to spread the love for food and flavours with everyone at this fantastic event.”

For the first time in the festival’s history, this year’s event has been extended, and will take place over three days.

A Festival Supper will kick things off on Friday 13 October, with the traditional food market and chef demos on the Saturday, 14 October.

Finally, Sunday 15 October will see High Street play host to live music and street food to finish the weekend’s celebrations.
