    Transport for Wales is reminding the public in Wales that they should only make essential journeys during the ‘firebreak’ lockdown period, ahead of sporting events this weekend, followed by Halloween and Bonfire night.

    The Welsh Government introduced new ‘firebreak’ restrictions to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 last Friday until Monday 9 November 2020.  TfW is reinforcing that during this period there are restrictions on all travel in Wales and people should only travel if their journey is essential.

    Last weekend, TfW figures revealed that many people were travelling from North Wales and into England for the day/evening. They are also aware that there are sporting events happening this weekend, followed by Halloween and then Bonfire night, and they want to ensure that the public understand that there are restrictions in place.

    James Price, Transport for Wales CEO said;

    “The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority at Transport for Wales and we fully support Welsh Government in their restrictions to help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

    “During the restriction period, public transport will be for essential travel only and we’ll be running fewer services.”

    Leyton Powell, TfW Safety and Assurance Director added:

    “We’re aware that this weekend there are sporting events taking place and following that we have Halloween and bonfire night.

    “However, there are travel restrictions in place and people should only travel if essential. We’d like to wish all our customers a happy Halloween but please stay home, save lives and only travel if your journey is essential.”
