The Big Cardiff Tidy returns this autumn from 18 September to 4 October, with communities invited to tackle litter across the capital.
The annual campaign is led by Keep Wales Tidy, Love Where You Live and Cardiff Rivers Group. It follows Keep Wales Tidy findings that highlight opportunities to further improve the cleanliness of Cardiff’s streets, parks and public spaces.
Last year over 800 participants took part, collecting over 1165 bags of litter through more than 114 clean-up events involving individuals, schools, community groups, businesses and local residents.
Keep Wales Tidy is calling on more people to get involved. Individuals, community groups, schools and businesses are encouraged to register their own Big Cardiff Tidy events.
Dave King for Cardiff Rivers Group said: “Cardiff Rivers Group are very pleased to play our part in organising events across the city as part of the Big Cardiff Tidy. Everyone should be able to enjoy the community and green spaces of Cardiff, but unfortunately some are blighted with litter and flytipping. This is often the result of the selfish actions of a small minority of people who fail to see the impact their behaviour has on the local environment and wider community.
Community groups such as ourselves, along with many others across the city, work hand in hand with Keep Wales Tidy, Cardiff Council, the Harbour Authority and other public bodies to try to make a difference, not just during the Big Cardiff Tidy, but all year round.

Cllr Ed Stubbs, Cabinet Member for Frontline Services at Cardiff Council, said: “Several years ago, the Council launched the Love Where You Live campaign to establish and support community groups that generously volunteer their time to carry out litter picks across Cardiff. The council continues to work closely with these dedicated groups, Litter Champions, schools and businesses to help keep our city clean and tidy. I have personally enjoyed joining my local litter-picking group over the years and seeing first-hand the positive impact these efforts can have on our communities. We hope as many people as possible will take part in the Big Cardiff Tidy initiative so that, together, we can make a real difference.”
The campaign is funded by the Cardiff Resilience Fund in partnership with Cardiff Council. Litter remains a challenge in places across Wales.
