Home Bargains has invested approximately £4 million in its new store in Barry, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 21 November 2020.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 62 new jobs in the local community with its store on Palmerston Road. In total, the store will employ 75 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to Tŷ Hafan, which is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities and offers care to children and support for their families, throughout Wales.

Tŷ Hafan, like many charities, has found itself in urgent need of support following the impact of COVID-19, with the children’s hospice forecasting a significant drop in income due to coronavirus restrictions. With only 6 per cent of its annual funding coming from the Government, Tŷ Hafan relies on the generosity of the public to carry out its vital services.

The new Barry store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Sean Morrison, the new Barry store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Barry store this weekend, and one that’s very personal to me.

“I started my journey with Home Bargains as an 18-year-old sales assistant at the old Barry site in 2007, which was the first Home Bargains in South Wales, so it’s a pleasure to be returning to my hometown as Barry’s new store manager.”

The 23,261 sq ft store, which formerly housed Waitrose, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Sean added: “Palmerston Road will be a great location for us and we’re excited to be opening the new store this Saturday and look forward to welcoming customers through its doors. We’re proud to be able to offer the people of Barry top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
