South Wales Police is urging residents in Barry to take extra care after a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries were reported in the area.
Officers say recent incidents have involved offenders entering unlocked homes through open windows, stealing items from a shed and attempting to gain access to properties by trying front doors and car doors.
The force is now asking people to remain vigilant and take simple steps to help protect their homes and vehicles.
Residents are being advised to:
- Keep doors locked, even when at home
- Keep vehicles locked and remove valuables from sight
- Make sure CCTV systems are switched on and recording
- Check that external security lights are working
South Wales Police is also encouraging anyone who notices suspicious behaviour or unfamiliar vehicles in their neighbourhood to report it.
Reports can be made online via the South Wales Police website or by calling 101. In an emergency, where a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to life, always dial 999.
Police say keeping homes secure and reporting suspicious activity can play an important role in preventing further offences.
