Plans to invest in Rhiwbina Library to deliver additional and enhanced services for the community have been unveiled.

Cardiff Council is carrying out an engagement exercise on proposals to refurbish the library building and create the newest facility in the city’s network of community hubs. The aim will be to deliver more Council and partner organisation services there, based on the theme of wellbeing.

With funding from Welsh Government’s Integrated Care Fundfor the development, the Council is proposing to create new and improved reception facilities, additional meeting spaces for service delivery and community activities, new library shelving and seating areas and improved IT facilities and Wi-Fi coverage. The refurbishment would include dementia-friendly internal redecoration throughout the public space and the creation of an attractive and usable outdoor space.

Future services will be shaped in partnership with the local community and will include a variety of health and wellbeing focussed activities.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: “Building on the success of our community hubs programme, and most recently the transformation of Whitchurch and Rhydypennau libraries into modern, fit for purpose wellbeing hubs, Rhiwbina Library is now set for investment and regeneration that will bring a variety of benefits to the local community.

“Hubs provide more services and better services in a joined up way. As well as a modern and sustainable library service, our plans for provision at the library building will have a strong focus on health and wellbeing.  Local people will be able to make so much more of this fantastic asset at the heart of the community, with improvements to the actual building and the services we deliver there to meet customers’ needs.”

Further details on the proposal are now available at www.cardiffneighbourhoodregeneration.co.uk where anyone interested in the plans can find out more and submit their views. Members of the public who want to discuss the project with a member of the regeneration team can also arrange a call back by emailing their contact details to [email protected]

The deadline for responses is Wednesday, March 3. Views expressed will be considered in the development of final proposals for the scheme.
