New parking plans for Crosskeys flats

Caerphilly County Borough Council has unveiled plans to provide new and improved car parking for tenants living in flats at Risca Road, Crosskeys.

The Council is investing over £100,000 into the plans as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme; which will see a total investment of £260 million made into tenants’ homes and communities throughout the Caerphilly county borough.

Parking has been an issue for tenants at Risca Road for several years, due to insufficient spaces and problems caused by visitors to the nearby college campus.  The Council’s proposals could see parking spaces for tenants increase from 24 to 44; providing increased parking bays for tenants, their visitors and carers.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, said “Consultation with tenants is a key aspect of the environmental element of our WHQS programme and, in the case of Risca Road, it was clear that parking was a priority for those living there.  Staff from the WHQS Team have worked closely with the Council’s tree expert and Highways Team to develop proposals that will maximise parking and access, whilst also being sensitive to green spaces and biodiversity in the area.”

The Council advises that a date has not yet been set for work to begin, as a result of current Covid-19 restrictions.
