Help to Buy Wales Sees Rachel seal property dream

With Help to Buy Wales – the scheme introduced to provide a shared equity loan to buyers of new-build homes – contributing to soaring sales at one of Cardiff’s newest developments, Solicitor Rachel Down is celebrating the part it has played in helping her achieve her own property dream.

Rachel, 28 – who has temporarily been living with her parents in Bridgend to help her save – has recently purchased a two-bedroom balcony apartment at Schooner Wharf; a prestigious development of 85 luxury 1 and 2-bedroom apartments, situated on the waterfront overlooking Cardiff’s East Dock.

Speaking about being able to get onto the property ladder, Rachel says:

“I’ve lived and worked in Cardiff for the last 7 years and knew I wanted to buy a property and settle here but it has always been out of my reach, prior to the introduction of Help to Buy Wales.

“Schooner Wharf jumped out at me straight away – it’s such a high-quality build and has the bonus of parking, which can be an issue in the city.  I’ve got fabulous water views and am in walking distance from both the Bay – which is literally on the doorstep – and also town so it really does offer the best of both worlds.

“Purchasing a new-build has also given me the opportunity to design it very much to my own taste – choosing textiles, the kitchen and bathroom specifications and flooring for example.

“I’ve found the whole process extremely straightforward and can’t wait to move into my new apartment at Schooner Wharf.”

Speaking about the impact that Help to Buy has already had on purchasers such as Rachel at Schooner Wharf, Catherine Maunder, director at New Homes Agency said:

“We’re seeing the positive impact of the Help to Buy Wales scheme on a daily basis, putting buyers such as Rachel in a position to secure a fantastic home in one of the best locations in the city.

“We have lots of first-time buyers on our books who just wouldn’t be able to afford a home in such an enviable location without taking up Help to Buy and it’s great to see them getting on the property ladder.

“We’re delighted Rachel is so happy with her new home and look forward to handing over the keys!”
