With Swans supporters hoping for promotion to the Premier League and others backing Chelsea or Manchester City in the Champions League final, there’s a lot to play for.
A great prize this weekend will be for local communities to stay safe from Covid-19 – and the Swans, police and council are united in a desire to see the city stay safe.
There’ll be no organised event at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday so fans are asked to stay away, and the city’s hospitality businesses will continue to work hard to keep staff and customers safe.
Also to keep people safe over the bank holiday weekend there’ll be extra police patrols around the city centre and stadium.
Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart said: “We know how important this weekend is for football – and we know that supporters’ emotions will be tested before, during and after the games.
“We want the Swans to win promotion – and we also want our communities to be protected from the deadly virus that’s still with us.
“That’s why we ask supporters to enjoy the weekend safely by following Welsh Government guidance. Observe social distancing and the rule of six in pubs, wear masks where social distancing isn’t possible, in your home meet only with those you live with or those in your extended household and meet no more than five others at a pub or in your garden.
“We know this is a big weekend – but please enjoy it safely; the more people you meet the more chance there is that the virus will spread.”
Superintendent Steve Jones, of South Wales Police, said: “The whole city are behind the Swans this weekend – the team has done us proud all season.
“While fans have started returning to stadiums, Covid hasn’t gone away, and everyone should continue to follow the restrictions in place.
“Only meet in groups of up to six in indoor hospitality, and at home only with your extended household.
“And please respect staff in licensed premises, who play a vital role in allowing for a return to what we all enjoy.”
Swansea City chief executive Julian Winter said: “Saturday has the potential to be a fantastic day for the city of Swansea.
“The local community have played a massive role in supporting the team from afar this season as well as helping to keep Covid-19 at bay in the local area.
“As a club we urge everyone to stay safe, be sensible, but above all enjoy what we all hope will be a great day.”
With more people expected to be out and about due to the sport, the bank holiday and the forecast good weather, the council will have more street cleansing officers on duty.
