RCT Council has finalised arrangements for the upcoming scheme to deliver drainage improvements at Standard View in Ynyshir – including details about a necessary road closure and a free shuttle bus service for residents.
Last month, the Council announced it has appointed DT Contracting to carry out the £100,000 scheme, for which an 85% contribution has been secured from Welsh Government. Three weeks of work, starting from Monday, July 19, consists of lining works to an existing drainage network, to improve its condition and ensure it performs efficiently in periods of heavy rainfall.
In order to carry out the improvements, the Council’s contractor requires a road closure of the lane connecting Standard View and Heath Terrace. The scheme has therefore been scheduled for the school holidays to minimise disruption, in respect of the nearby Ynyshir Community Primary School.
An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted via Heath Terrace, Llanwonno Road, Porth Relief Road, Llanwonno Road, Ynyshir Road, Station Road, Avon Terrace and Standard View. The contractor has advised access will be maintained for pedestrians, but not for emergency service vehicles.
Throughout the closure period, the Stagecoach Service 155 (Porth-Ferndale) will be unable to serve Heath Terrace. It will instead travel via Ynyshir Road in both directions, and will turn around in the Springfield housing complex.
A free shuttle bus will operate on Mondays to Saturdays between Heath Terrace and Morrisons in Porth. It will depart from outside 78 Heath Terrace at 9.50am, 11.50am, 1.50pm and 5pm, and return from Morrisons Bus Stop at 10.25am, 12.25pm and 3.25pm. The shuttle bus will wait at Morrisons for the Stagecoach Service 155 to maintain all connections for ongoing travel.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transportation, said: “This scheme in Ynyshir is the latest by the Council to make drainage improvements in targeted areas of the County Borough – having secured a significant contribution from Welsh Government to deliver the works.
“It follows on from a separate drainage scheme at Ty’n-y-Wern in Ynyshir, which started during mid-June – along with additional gully cover upgrades at Pentre Road and a manhole upgrade at Volunteer Street in Pentre, which got underway at the end of June. Work also started on July 12 to deliver headwall and lining improvements to the culvert inlet at Cefnpennar Road in Cwmbach.
“The upcoming work in Ynyshir is likely to cause some disruption locally due to the need for a road closure. The Council has put a number of measures in place to minimise the disruption, including a free shuttle bus service which will operate for as long as the closure is in place – to ensure residents continue to have access to public transport. The work is also scheduled for the school summer holiday, which will avoid any disruption to the nearby primary school.
“Thanks to local residents and road users in advance for their patience and cooperation as the improvement works are carried out. The Council will work closely with its contractor to complete the scheme as quickly as possible.”
