RCT Council is advising residents and road users of remedial work required at Miskin Road in Mountain Ash, which also requires day-time closures of the Cross Valley Link – scheduled for the school half term to minimise disruption.

The Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link opened to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in October 2020, as the Council delivered the multi-million pound new link road which has vastly improved traffic flow within local communities.

A series of follow-up works are now required in order to correct defects at Miskin Road – including resurfacing sections of the carriageway, inspecting chamber and kerb repairs, and bridge deck drainage repairs. This will be carried out by the Council’s contractor for the overall scheme, Walters-Sisk – at no cost to the Council.

As a result, the new two-way section of Miskin Road and the Cross Valley Link will close from Monday, October 25, (9am to 4.30pm), for around three days. The necessary closure is scheduled for the school half term period, and outside of peak hours, to minimise disruption.

An alternative route for motorists, from Miskin Road, will be via Oxford Street, Commercial Street, High Street, Llanwonno Road, Hawthorn Terrace, Glamorgan Street, Abercynon Road and Penrhiwceiber Road.

From the opposite side of the closure, proceed via Penrhiwceiber Road, Abercynon Road, Glamorgan Street, Hawthorn Terrace, Llanwonno Road, High Street. Commercial Street, Oxford Street, Henry Street and Miskin Road.

For motorists travelling between Miskin Road and the A4059, an alternative route will be via New Road (A4059), Frwd Crescent, Mountain Ash Town Centre Bridge, Commercial Street, High Street, Llanwonno Road, Hawthorn Terrace, Glamorgan Street, Abercynon Road and Penrhiwceiber Road.

Access to all residential properties will be maintained throughout the works, while pedestrian access across the Cross Valley Link Road will also remain available at all times. The Council is currently finalising a shuttle bus arrangement, to service the bus stops missed due to the traffic diversions. Further information about this temporary service will be communicated to residents in due course.

The contractor will have site offices located near to its former compound area on the Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate, which it used throughout the duration of the main construction works.
