Not-for-profit trust Freedom Leisure that operates leisure centres in partnership with Swansea Council is inviting city employers to offer their staff free trial sessions to get active, stay healthy and feel great.

Freedom Leisure area manager Nic Beggs said: “During the past 18 months we’ve all changed the way we work and prioritise our week.

“Companies are now adapting their workforce to work flexibly – and this will give staff an improved work-life balance and the ability to access different types of exercise.

“Our centres have been given a facelift in the last few years and, although they might look the same on the outside, they’ve been modernised to reflect a state-of-the-art leisure experience in almost all areas.

“We’re keen to show off our centres to the local community and Active Workforce Week is just one initiative designed to do just that!

“It’s medically proven that exercise improves mood and concentration levels, reduces mental fatigue, enhances self-esteem and boosts energy levels.

“Staff tend to have less time off if we look after both their physical and mental health.”

Active Workforce Week runs until this Sunday (November 28).

It sees Freedom open its doors to the local workforce community to try all its facilities for free.

This includes gym and classes at all of its Swansea centres – Bishopston, Cefn Hengoed, the LC, Morriston, Penlan and Penyrheol – and swimming.

LC general manager Rachel Curtis said: “The team and I are really excited to open the doors for local workers to come and try out the centre’s wonderful facilities for free!

“We believe that we can improve people’s lives through leisure – and even more so after the last 18 months.”

Freedom shares a vision with the council to get local workers active and healthy.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “I’m delighted that workers across the city have free access to these wonderful leisure facilities this week.

“The council has invested in its leisure centres and Freedom Leisure are doing the right thing in encouraging more people to use them.”
