5G Wales Unlocked partners, AppyWay and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, have launched the AppyParking app — displaying real-time availability of parking in Ebbw Vale’s General Offices , Parkway and Town Station car parks.

Enabled by 5G technology — powered by BT — the app allows users to see where they can park in advance of their journey, meaning drivers can better plan their visit to the town and in turn, making local businesses, healthcare, education, and employment more accessible.

The app helps visitors locate free or paid for parking in Ebbw Vale and locations across the UK, providing detailed parking information and in-app navigation. Each parking space has a sensor which uses 5G to show the real-time availability of spaces, meaning drivers can see where parking is available before setting off.

What’s more, the initiative provides the Council with data that allows them to better understand and manage their car parks, encouraging data-driven decision making.

Founder and CEO of AppyWay, Dan Hubert, said: “We’re thrilled to have launched access to real-time availability of parking in Ebbw Vale in conjunction with Blaenau Gwent County Council.

“This 5G powered initiative provides an exceptional town centre parking experience — one that plays a significant role in helping the local economy and high street recover from an extremely challenging couple of years. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the project partners.”

A spokesperson from  Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council added: “I am pleased that this innovative parking app is now available to Blaenau Gwent residents and visitors.

“We hope it will make it easier and more efficient for people to find somewhere to park — with the added benefit of helping reduce pollution with less need for drivers to drive around searching for spaces.

“Likewise, during busy periods, visitors may opt to use public transport instead — furthersupporting our decarbonisation plans for the area.”
