Charity, Speed Of Sight, hosted a track day for disabled people that enables them to drive at Llandow Circuit on 19th and 20th July 2022, and was hailed a success by all.

People with all disabilities had the chance to drive themselves and an instructor around Llandow Circuit this week and it’s all thanks to charity, Speed Of Sight that hosts the experiences all over the UK.

Speed Of Sight is run by blind race car driver and multiple World Record holder Mike Newman and his co-founder John Galloway. Interested participants can have any disability, as the team is trained to help everyone in and out of the cars, which are specially designed and built – two racing cars and two all-terrain buggies – to allow people of all ages with disabilities to enjoy the excitement and thrill of driving.

The vehicles, named after Mike’s guide dogs, are specially designed with dual controls and twin steering wheels and the buggies are equipped with hand controls.

Mike Newman enthused: “Yet again, our experience at Llandow Circuit has been an incredible one, we held our driving experiences over two days at the circuit and had a lot of happy faces from the participants, their families and the volunteers.

“We’ve been hosting our track days at Llandow Circuit for many years now and we’re always fully booked with new and return participants – one family on the Wednesday even drove from Hull to give their loved one the experience of driving!

“Sometimes we have people who attend our track days who don’t realise that they’ll actually be able to drive the cars themselves, but when we get them in the seat and tell them how to use the pedals and steering wheel, their faces just light up and they get so excited – it really does amaze me that we’re able to provide that joy to people and that’s very humbling.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without our amazing supporters, so we just want to thank them and everyone who is involved in our track days.”
