Caerphilly agrees £3 million cost of living support package for residents

Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet members met on Monday (September 26th) and approved plans to create a special hardship fund to help residents cope with the ‘cost-of-living crisis’

The current cost of living crisis presents an unprecedented financial challenge to many residents in the County Borough.

The Caerphilly CBC Cost of Living Hardship Fund will allow the Council to undertake a series of initiatives aimed at providing support to those most in need.

How to apply and eligibility criteria for the Hardship Fund will be published in the coming months.

Alongside the Hardship Fund the report included a number of future proposals on how the council will further assist our residents through the crisis.

Proposals included more food banks to be opened, leisure centres to offer free or low-cost gym and swimming sessions and community hubs to be set up to enable local people to help coordinate the local response to the cost-of-living crisis.

Cllr Sean Morgan, Leader of Council said “The cost-of-living crisis is at the forefront of everyone’s mind at the moment, especially as residents use more energy in the coming colder months which is already at unprecedented levels.

As Leader of the Council, I want to reassure the whole community that this local authority is working hard to support everyone through this difficult time.

The Caerphilly CBC Cost of Living Hardship Fund will allow the Council to quickly deliver targeted support to the most vulnerable residents in our communities.

We want to make accessing the support available as easy as possible and have developed a ‘one stop shop’ on the CCBC website where lots of cost-of-living support measures can be found in one place – caerphilly.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support

We recognise that not all residents have access to the internet and some of these schemes can be difficult to understand – so for that reason we recently held a number of cost-of-living roadshows across the county borough for local people to discuss eligibility face to face with council officers and our partner organisations. More roadshows will follow in the coming months.

To ensure you are receiving all the support you are entitled to speak to a member of our Caerphilly Cares Team today.”
