Jeremy Miles MS, Minister for Education and the Welsh Language in the Welsh Government, visited Fochriw Primary School to see their Curriculum for Wales journey, present a Welsh Language Award and celebrate National Poetry Day.
The Minister had a tour of the school, led by representatives from the school’s pupil voice groups and the headteacher, Sharon Pascoe. Shortly afterwards, the Minister attended the school assembly where he presented the ‘Siarter Iaith Silver Award’ to the ‘Criw Cymraeg’. Finally, Jeremy Miles MS took part in the school’s ‘Daily Mile’ with the healthy confident pupils from Year 3 to Year 6.
Sharon Pascoe, Headteacher of Fochriw Primary commented: “We’re delighted to welcome the Welsh Government Minister for Education to Fochriw Primary School. We’ve loved the opportunity to share our ‘Curriculum for Wales journey to date’ and show how the four purposes permeate our school life here at Fochriw. It’s a privilege to receive the Siarter Iaith Silver Award from the Minister and for him to join us for our annual celebration of National Poetry Day!”
Minister for Education and Welsh Language, Jeremy Miles, said: “Thanks to everyone at Fochriw Primary school for organising such an engaging visit, that even saw me putting on my trainers to join in on the daily morning run. It has been inspiring to see and hear about how the school is embedding the new Curriculum for Wales.
“I’d also like to congratulate the school on receiving their Siarter Iaith award, which I was delighted to be able to present to them in person.”
Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education added: “It was lovely to be part of the Welsh Government Minister for Education’s visit to Fochriw Primary School. It was great for pupils and staff to meet a Jeremy Miles MS in their own school and to be able to ask him questions.”
