A range of exciting regeneration projects across the Caerphilly county borough have received a cash boost thanks to a funding decision made by the council’s Cabinet.
In total, more than £570k has been allocated towards a number of developments including:
New Caerphilly market proposal – £450,000 has been secured to progress exciting plans to create an attractive new market development on Park Lane in the heart of the town centre. The new market will, subject to Welsh Government approval, provide 28 small-scale units and space for additional ‘pop-up’ market traders.
Transforming Town Centres – £111,000 has been secured to act as match funding towards a number of schemes as part of the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Placemaking programme. The key elements involve public space improvements in Bargoed and Blackwood town centres along with improvements to Dafydd Williams Park, Caerphilly.
Pontymister Car Park – Almost £50,000 has been secured to provide enhanced car parking in Pontymister. Reopening a disused former car park will assist in resolving on street parking issues in the vicinity, which in turn will help revitalise the local economy.
Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly Council welcomed the investment, “This funding package is an investment in towns and demonstrates our signal of intent to deliver regeneration. We will continue to deliver improvements across the county borough to enhance our local communities.”
