Caerphilly County Borough Council embrace this year’s Food Waste Action Week’s theme, Win, Don’t Bin, by making one of its recycling residents a £500 winner.
Love Food Hate Waste’s Food Waste Action Week took place 6th-12th March and is a week of action which brings the nation together to save time and money by making the food we already have go further.
This year’s theme Win, Don’t Bin includes a celebrity ambassador along with a team of exciting influencers occupying the internet and shining a light on how the correct storage of food can provide a second (or third!) meal for free.
Throughout the week Love Food Hate Waste are posting fun and informative content on their socials and maybe even a competition or two so there’s even more chance you could feel like a winner!
The theme has been embraced by Caerphilly County Borough Council, who has named one of their food waste recycling residents a winner of £500.
Taryn Gillett from Bedwas is the tenth winner of CCBC’s Mash for Cash campaign, which sees houses monitored with one food recycling participant chosen at random each month.
CCBC’s Mash for Cash campaign was launched in March 2022, with the aim to increase the number of residents currently recycling their food waste. In turn, the Local Authority hopes that the increase in food waste recycling would lead to a decline in the amounts of refuse disposal, boosting the overall recycling rates as well as supporting the Councils commitment to reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases and thereby contributing to the national and global goals for decarbonisation.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces said: “I would like to say a big congratulations to Ms Gillett on her winnings.
“We at CCBC are committed to reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases and reaching our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Food waste recycling is just one of the ways that our residents can help us to reach this target.”
