Families visiting the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) near Machynlleth this summer can take part in a wide range of hands-on activities exploring nature, gardening, green building and more – all free with an entry ticket.

Running throughout the school holidays, CAT’s events offer a wide range of creative and educational topics around sustainability, with different activities offered each day.

In the Centre’s woodland corner, families can discover green woodworking and try their hands at a range of woodland crafts, while in the green building zone there are hands-on activities for budding builders and architects.

Elsewhere, visitors can roll up their sleeves and join CAT’s gardeners in building a pollinator-friendly habitat garden, with plenty of tips to take away and use at home. On other days, families can become nature detectives and develop their ID skills while helping collect real-life data on the wildlife in CAT’s ponds, meadows, woodlands and gardens.

John Challen, CAT’s Head of Eco Centre said:

“With stunning gardens and woodland trails, CAT has always been a brilliant place to bring the kids. The visitor event programme really helps to bring topics like growing, ecology and sustainable building to life, with lots of ideas to take away to try at home.”

All events are included within the price of a CAT entry ticket and don’t require pre-booking; entry to CAT is completely free for permanent residents of SY20 and SY19 postcode areas (just take proof of address).

Different events take place on different days so visitors are advised to visit the CAT website to find out what’s on when.
