A range of employers and organisations from across the Caerphilly county borough have been finding out how they can support local people who are currently working and in receipt of certain benefits.

A special partnership event, hosted by Caerphilly Council at their Penallta house HQ, highlighted the support that is available to employers and their employees from the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), the council and a range of other partner organisations.

The event focused on promoting the support that is available including mid-careers reviews & personal learning accounts, myth busting around the 16-hour limitation to accessing Universal Credit and promoting supplementary benefits including Carers Allowance and Pensions Credit and how employees can access these whilst in work etc.

As a key partner of DWP, Caerphilly County Borough Council shares their ambition to support customers who are currently working and in receipt of Universal Credit as well as their employers.

Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, said “We are delighted to be working in close partnership with our colleagues at the Department for Work and Pensions to provide additional support and opportunities for residents across the Caerphilly county borough.”

“We want everyone to be able to progress and thrive in work, whoever they are and wherever they live. With over 5,000 individuals located within the county borough currently in receipt of Universal Credit and in work, we hope the event will help everyone to progress and thrive in work, whoever they are.”

“This In-Work Progression initiative will help provide improved job quality, stability and earning potential for many local people as part of our ambition to develop a strong local economy and a vibrant workforce,” she added.

Businesses in the Caerphilly county borough area can find out more about In-Work Progression and the support available to their workforce by contacting the Employer Services Team in their local jobcentre and customers can find out more by speaking to their Work Coach.
