Ysbyty Ystrad FM launched in February 2021 to help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation whilst staying in hospital. The hospital radio aims to ease anxiety and give a sense of belonging to patients.

YYFM is free to use and accessible to patients, tablets are available to use on wards or you can use your own personal device. The radio station is also available outside of the hospital.

The project has created working partnerships with University of South Wales, Caerphilly County Borough Council, communities for work and local schools. Key stakeholders provide content for the station and continue to support the development of Ysbyty Ystrad FM.

This exciting community focused project, whilst delivering benefits for patients, has brought new opportunities for the schoolchildren of Idris Davies School 3-18.

YYFM is donating a range of radio equipment from headphones to microphones and podcast production technology to the school.

Steven Davies, the Founder of YYFM and Project Lead, said “We are delighted to donate this radio equipment to Idris Davies School and are looking forward to working with them on future projects.

YYFM continues to go from strength to strength. I am so proud that the project is benefiting so many different people, not only our listeners but also the students at the University of South Wales and local schools like Idris Davies”.

You can listen to Ysbyty Ystrad FM by visiting itsyyfm.com. Listen to numerous music shows, interviews, new summaries or tune in for ‘The Fantastic Tales around the Teapot’ hosted by a group of ladies with new stories every week.
