In recognition for Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council successfully achieving Bee Friendly Status, as recognised by the Action Plan for Pollinators Taskforce, a prestigious award ceremony was held at the General Offices.
The Bee Friendly scheme is an initiative that promotes the creation of environments conducive to the health and well-being of pollinators, which are vital to our ecosystems and agriculture.
This prestigious certification award was presented to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council by Bleddyn Lake from Friends of the Earth Cymru and Kathleen Caroll from Welsh Government, to recognise the Council’s commitment to supporting local pollinators and enhancing biodiversity.
Bleddyn Lake, for Friends of the Earth commented, “We are delighted to be awarding the Bee Friendly Status to Blaenau Gwent Council, in recognition of the actions they are committed to delivering to help support pollinators and tackle the many pressures that our pollinators are facing”
Cllr Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Place and Environment for Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council commented, ” We acknowledge that we are currently in a biodiversity and climate crisis and that it is vitally important we demonstrate our commitment in trying to tackle these challenges as further loss to biodiversity will increase climate change as the two are intrinsically linked. We are committed to ensure we are maintaining and enhancing habitat for pollinators and other wildlife but also creating ecosystem resilience. Therefore, we are very proud to have been awarded Bee Friendly Status”.
