Brecon-based esports club S.E.A. Dragons have been crowned Welsh Esports League Premiership champions in Counter-Strike 2 after an unbeaten debut season.
The club was founded earlier this year by Cardiff Met students Patryk Białowąs and Dylan Carpenter, Lead Analyst for Cardiff Met FC’s men’s and women’s football teams. Their aim was to bring professional sports methods into esports, applying a “Moneyball-style” model based on data analysis, recruitment insights and structured coaching.
It proved successful. The Dragons delivered statement results across the campaign – including a 13–4 win over Dragons RFC’s official esports team – before defeating the Pit Ponies, official esports partners of Pontypridd United FC, 2–1 in the final.
Patryk, who is also Head Analyst at Hereford FC, said:
“We’re not pretending to be the biggest name in esports. But this season proved that a rural Welsh team with the right structure can go toe-to-toe with professional partner clubs and come out on top.”
Dylan added:
“What we’re building is about more than one result. We want to show that analysis and structure can make the difference in esports, just like it does in football. This title is proof that the approach works.”
The victory makes S.E.A. Dragons the first Brecon club to win a Premiership title in the Welsh Esports League. Around 1,000 people watched the final online, with community watch parties also taking place locally.
