Why Burger Boyz is Cardiff’s next must-visit burger joint

If you’re a burger lover in Cardiff, you’ve probably already heard the news: Burger Boyz have opened on Cowbridge Road East, right by Victoria Park. We’ve been fans of theirs since their early days, so having them now on our doorstep feels like a bit of a win.

The spot itself has quite a history, it was most recently home to Ansh, but for many of us, it’ll always be remembered as the old Dough Thrower site. Now it’s buzzing again, this time thanks to Marcin Sadlos and Jack Phillips, the school friends who swapped engineering jobs in 2021 for a food truck and a dream.

Burger Boyz are now located opposite Victoria Park in Cardiff

Since then, the Boyz have gone from strength to strength. Their smash burgers built such a following that they secured a kitchen in Port Talbot, set up at Newport Market, opened in Swansea’s Albert Hall, and rolled up at festivals across Wales in their brilliantly named Truck Norris.

Of course, the truck is named after their best-selling burger, the Chuck Norris, which also spawned the infamous “Chuck Norris Challenge” – a jaw-dropping mountain of burgers, fries, chicken and halloumi that YouTube star Randy Santel once tackled. Not something we fancied on our visit, but maybe one for the brave or our next visit. Hm.

    The Chuck Norris

Instead, we went straight for the menu. The Chuck Norris (from £10.50) was the star of our order, stacked with juicy beef patties, American cheese, crispy bacon and their signature Norris sauce.

    The Cowboy Fries

We added the OG Classic (from £9.50) and The Simple One (£7.50) to the mix, plus a side of Cowboy Fries (£10) and halloumi that was chunky, squeaky and everything you’d want it to be.

The first bite reminded us why we keep coming back. The beef patties melt in the mouth, the flavours all work together, and it never feels like they’re trying too hard. You get big burgers, big flavour, and nothing overpowers.

The space itself matches the food, it’s bright, bold, and a bit cheeky. Graffiti murals, neon burger signs, and quirky artwork give it a modern, fun feel, and there’s even outdoor seating tucked away at the back.

Add in the friendly staff and Tiny Rebel lager on tap, and you’ve got a place that doesn’t just do great burgers but has a great vibe too.

And we can’t forget the location. Being right opposite Victoria Park makes it an easy go-to, whether you’re grabbing food after a walk or making it your destination for the evening.

We’ve been to their Port Talbot restaurant before and loved it, but having Burger Boyz here in Cardiff feels special. For us, it’s already one of the city’s best burger spots. If you haven’t been yet, trust us, the photos don’t do it justice.

Find Burger Boyz at 589 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, CF5 1BE.
