Pobl Group, which will become Codi Group from January 2026, alongside development partner Hacer, welcomed Julie James MS, Counsel General and Minister for Delivery, and Councillor Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, to Biome this week for a tour of the landmark regeneration project.
Set to complete in spring 2026, Biome is fast emerging as one of Wales’s most forward thinking developments, focused on sustainable, nature rich living in the heart of Swansea city centre.
During the visit, guests were able to see first-hand the impressive progress on site. The 4-storey glasshouse is now fully constructed, offering panoramic views across the whole of Swansea Bay, and will become hubs for growing, learning and community activity. A completed show apartment offered a glimpse of the contemporary, low-carbon homes that future residents will enjoy, with the wider apartments now receiving their finishing touches. At street level, the commercial and retail spaces that form the lower floors of the building will be a major focus over the coming months as the project moves toward completion.
The visit underlined how Biome is setting a new benchmark for biophilic design in urban regeneration across Wales. With its integration of nature, community spaces, and low-carbon technologies, the building offers a compelling model for cities responding to the climate and nature emergencies.
Biome is also at the centre of the UK-wide REPAIR research programme (Retrofitting for the Future: Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Adaptation), funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. As a “living laboratory”, the building will help researchers, from multiple disciplines, understand how nature-connected design can improve wellbeing, support biodiversity, strengthen communities and boost climate recovery.
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “The biophilic building reflects the kind of high-quality, sustainable development we want to see in Swansea – one that puts people, wellbeing and the environment at its heart.
“It will help bring new life into the city centre, support jobs and investment, and generate even more footfall, helping to attract more shops and businesses.
“The scheme also demonstrates Swansea’s ambition to lead on innovative, green design, so I’m delighted to see it making such good progress.”
Pobl Group has been working to allocate the 50 affordable apartments and looks forward to welcoming new residents next year. Early interest has been extremely positive, reflecting growing demand for homes that offer not only affordability, but a more connected, community-focused way of living.
