Macauley Cotterill, 28, from Ely, has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison following his conviction for drug-related offences. The sentencing took place on Friday January 9, 2026, at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court where Cotterill pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and acquire/use of criminal property.
The case stems from an arrest of a separate man on Saturday November 29, 2025, who was being offered cocaine for sale from a mobile phone number. Enquiries were completed and the mobile phone number was later identified as belonging to Cotterill.
On Thursday December 11, 2025, officers attended an address in Treforest, where they arrested and detained Cotterill. The arrest was made as there was evidence from pervious mobile phone downloads that he was in possession of a drugs line, which was being used to supply cocaine to Pontypridd.
Following a search of this address officers found £3,650 in cash multiple wraps of white powder, weighing scales and two phones.
Detective Inspector Ian Jones from the Mid-Glamorgan OCU team said
“Anyone involved in the production and supply of Class A drugs should know that this illegal trade does not pay. What you think is going to earn you easy money is instead going to earn you an easy trip to prison.”
“This sentencing shows the great work by officers to get drugs off the streets of Pontypridd, this work often takes patience and perseverance, but we will do what is necessary to ensure those who deal drugs are arrested and put before the courts.”
