KPMG UK has marked a year of significant team growth in Wales, with three senior hires bringing expertise across technology, cyber security and energy policy, alongside nine promotions.

The expansion of KPMG’s Cardiff office – located in the busy Cardiff Bay area – underlines the integral role Wales plays in the firm’s UK network, as the country capitalises on major infrastructure investments and positions itself as a hub for digital transformation and the energy transition.

KPMG welcomed three senior appointments to its more than 100-strong team during 2025. Steve Edwards was appointed Director of Energy Regulation and Policy as part of KPMG’s Infrastructure Advisory Group. Steve brings 28 years of energy sector experience, most recently as Commercial Director at the Port of Milford Haven. He played a key role in delivering the successful Celtic Freeport bid. In his new role, Steve supports organisations through the energy transition, capitalising on Wales’ significant opportunities across all energy sectors.

Matthew Davey joined as Client Relationship Lead for Wales. He brings extensive business development experience across multiple sectors, including high street retail, health and fitness, and most recently as business development lead for SANS Institute, a cyber security training provider serving public and private sectors in Norway.

Also based in Cardiff, Michael John joined from tech provider TPXimpact as Senior Business Development Manager in Tech and Data Advisory. At KPMG, Michael works with clients to deliver flexible digital solutions.

The office also promoted nine team members in October 2025, including Eleanor Hetenyi to Audit Director and Alex Appleton to Director, Strategy & Value Creation.

David Williams, Office Senior Partner for the Wales and South West Region at KPMG UK, said: “It’s a pivotal moment for Wales, with devolved nations featuring prominently in the UK Government’s recent Industrial Strategy. The approaching Senedd elections, landmark developments like the Celtic Freeport and major investments in renewable energy infrastructure are creating real momentum across the public and private sectors in Wales. Our appointments in 2025 reflect the calibre of talent we’re attracting to Wales and the growing opportunities we’re seeing on the ground.

“The expertise our new team members bring – from energy transition to business development – positions us strongly to support Welsh organisations as they scale and navigate complex challenges. As we look ahead, we’re entering this next phase with a strengthened leadership team and deepened sector capabilities, putting us in an excellent position to support clients across Wales and beyond.”
