Drivers parking along parts of Aberystwyth seafront will soon have to pay for on-street parking as Ceredigion County Council introduces new charges from Monday 18 May 2026.
The new measures will apply to Victoria Terrace, Marine Terrace and New Promenade, with charges operating daily between 8am and 8pm.
Ceredigion County Council says the seafront is one of the county’s busiest parking areas, with the changes aimed at managing demand, improving turnover of short-stay spaces and making it easier for residents, visitors and businesses to access the town centre.
Under the new system, motorists will pay £3.50 for up to two hours or £5 for up to four hours.
Drivers will only be allowed to stay for either two or four hours and will not be permitted to return to the same parking bay within four hours of their initial stay.
Blue Badge holders will continue to be able to park free of charge, provided a valid badge is clearly displayed.
The council says the changes are also designed to encourage use of nearby off-street car parks and promote alternative travel options including walking, cycling and public transport.
Councillor Shelley Childs, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services said: “We recognise this is a significant change, our aim is to manage the very high demand for seafront parking more fairly, improve availability for short visits, and support access to the town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.”
The council added that parking income helps cover the costs of maintaining parking assets as well as supporting highways and transport services across the county.
Drivers will be able to pay using pay-and-display machines or by mobile phone.
Season tickets will also remain available for the council’s long-stay pay and display car parks, with the authority stating that daily parking can cost as little as 81p per day with a season ticket.
