Hundreds of people turned up to a special community event to help launch Blaenau Gwent Council’s new Family Support Hub. The family fun day at Bedwellty Park, Tredegar, proved hugely popular in the May sunshine.

The Family Support Hub brings together a wide range of early years and family support services and provides a single point of contact for anyone seeking guidance or assistance. A “no wrong front door” approach ensures that anyone reaching out is directed to the most appropriate support, advice, or information for them.

The hub offers both targeted and universal support. This includes early intervention and preventative services for families who may need additional help, alongside information on childcare, play opportunities, parent and toddler groups, children’s activities, events, and local clubs. The aim is simple: to ensure families and professionals can access the right support, at the right time – whether they are facing complex challenges or making a simple enquiry.

As part of the launch, the hub has introduced a range of new resources, including:

    • Integrated social media pages to improve communication and accessibility
    • A new Padlet platform featuring information on services, resources, and events
    • A dedicated telephone number and email address for enquiries
    • A user-friendly online enquiry form

The event brought together a variety of services, offering fun, interactive activities alongside valuable information for families. It was well attended and warmly received, highlighting the strong community support for the new hub.

Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, Cllr Sue Edmunds said:

“Making sure every child in Blaenau Gwent has the opportunity to have the best start in life is a top priority for us, and as part of this we want to make the process of reaching out for support or advice as easy and comfortable as it can be. The new Family Support Hub brings all early years support, activities and advice under one roof, which is easy to access and more parent/carer friendly.”
