Oxwich Bay Hotel on the Gower Peninsula is to make the whole hotel available for private hire on selected days over the winter, as the family-owned business marks more than 60 years.

From 1 November 2026, groups will be able to book the entire hotel for family celebrations, corporate retreats, wellness escapes, Christmas gatherings and special occasions. The hotel will open as usual over the weekend.

The hotel lists Private Hire availability as Sunday to Thursday from 1 November 2026 to 20 March 2027, and Sunday to Tuesday from 21 March to 29 May 2027.

Groups will have private use of the hotel’s Café Bar, Restaurant, grounds and 12 bedrooms sleeping up to 22 guests, with additional accommodation available for larger groups.

The hotel said the move is part of a seasonal approach that allows the business to create more personalised guest experiences during the quieter winter months, while continuing to welcome weekend leisure stays, weddings and celebrations.

Second-generation owner Ian Williams said: “What started as a small B&B when I was a young child has evolved into something my parents would be incredibly proud of. Over the years, Oxwich Bay Hotel has continually adapted while remaining true to the warm hospitality we’ve always been known for.”

“We’re seeing increasing demand from groups looking for something more private and personal, whether that’s a family celebration, a company retreat or a wellness escape. Our new Private Hire experience gives guests the opportunity to enjoy the hotel as their own while making the very most of everything the Gower has to offer during the quieter months.”

The building dates from 1788, when it was built as the rectory for neighbouring St Illtyd’s Church. Ian Williams’ parents bought it from the Church in Wales in 1959, and it operated as a small guesthouse known as Cliffside before growing into the hotel.

Today the hotel offers historic accommodation, weddings and events, beachfront dining and seasonal experiences.

General Manager Emma Verlander said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming guests in a new way this winter. There’s something incredibly special about having the whole hotel to yourselves, whether you’re bringing the family together, celebrating a milestone, hosting a company retreat or simply escaping to the coast with friends.”
