The family of a woman, who died following a road incident in Whitchurch at the weekend, have issued a tribute.

At around 5.20pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Merthyr Road following reports of an incident involving a pedestrian and a South Wales Police van.

Winifred Greaves, 93, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where she died.

The incident has been referred to The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and Mrs Greaves’ family continue to be supported by specially-trained South Wales Police family liaison officers

In a statement, her family said: “Winnie was 93 years of age but retained the energy and vigour of a much younger person.

“She was born in Cardiff and as a young woman worked at the Ely Paper Mill and later as a waitress at the New Continental Restaurant.

“She was married to Cliff for 52 years until he died in 1998. They had a daughter and three sons followed by 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren each of whom she loved dearly.

“Winnie had lots of friends and always had a smile on her face.

“She had a great life and will be sadly missed.”
