Firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Barry Station, Red Watch, are set to deliver donated gifts from the community to the children at Ty Hafan on Christmas Day.

Ty Hafan, a Welsh registered charity, provides holistic palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout Wales.

“We are constantly amazed by the extra mile our friends in the community will go to and the Barry Fire fighters are testament to this.  Over the Christmas season, Ty Hafan will ensure that the little ones with us will receive round-the-clock care from our brilliant nurses but thanks to the kindness of people like our amazing firefighters, we can also ensure that the children get to enjoy the magic of Christmas too. To bring some festive cheer and gifts on Christmas day will be very much appreciated by the Ty Hafan families and will help ensure a special day to remember. So a huge thank you to the team and everyone who has supported them!” Claire Cooper, Director of Income Generation.

Barry Station have been working closely with ASDA in Barry, collecting presents and toys that have been donated by the local community. On Christmas Day, Red Watch will be delivering the gifts to Ty Hafan and will be taking part in activities with the children, such as painting and board games, as well as giving the children an opportunity to take a look inside one of their fire engines and try on fire kit.

Joshua Hitchman, Crew Manager, Barry Station, said:

“From all at the watch and myself, we would like to say how much we are looking forward to bringing all the donated presents to the children and spending time with them and their families on Christmas Day. Thank you to the community for their generous donations. It just goes to show what a great community we have here, in and around Barry.”
