WELSH care company Abacare has recently (March, 2019) joined a growing list of care providers coming together to help recruit 20,000 carers in Wales by 2030.

Abacare is just one of hundreds of businesses that are getting behind the recently launched WeCare Wales campaign.

Peter Angelides, Managing Director at Abacare, which provides care across Wales and has offices in Bangor, Newtown, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Ystradgynlais, said: “Currently there are around 113,000 people in the social care sector and the number of elderly people over the age of 80 is expected to increase by 44% in Wales by 2030, meaning the demand for care workers to look after these people is growing at a rapid pace.

“As an industry we have to plan for the future, which is why we’re delighted to be involved with the campaign and be part of a bigger plan to help meet the future needs of people in the country. We are listed as one of the social care employers that people interested in the industry can find out more about on www.wecare.wales and potentially join our team.”

The campaign is a collaboration with Social Care Wales and leading organisations representing social care, early years and childcare in Wales, as well as other national bodies involved in job-seeking and careers advice.

It is part of a long-term strategy to develop the workforces in the care and health sectors over the next decade, to provide a high-quality, seamless service to the people of Wales.

The campaign will highlight the breadth of career opportunities in care, from childminders and nursery practitioners to home care co-ordinators and care home managers.

The WeCare campaign aims to show the variety of roles and career progression opportunities available. By using real care workers, the campaign focuses on the challenges they face, as well as what makes their work rewarding and worthwhile.

Peter added: “It’s great to see real people who work in the industry being featured in campaigns such as this, as it allows potential staff to get a feel for what it’s really like and they can see how rewarding and inspiring a career it can be.

“In this day and age and in this ever-expanding industry, it is absolutely critical that organisations work together and we’re positive that the recruitment target can be met by 2030.

“If anyone is interested in joining our team they can log on to www.wecare.wales or visit www.abacare.org.uk.”
