Cardiff-based Cowshed, has today announced a new black and minority ethnic internship, to provide a pipeline of talented communication professionals to the industry.

The first marketing and communications internship in Wales for BAME groups, the opportunity is open for applications now. The placement will provide two people with 12 weeks of paid experience in one of the fastest growing agencies in Wales.

Candidates will get to work on some of the largest campaigns taking place in Wales right now. Clients include Welsh Government, Public Health Wales, FOR Cardiff, National Adoption Service, National Trust, Comic Relief and The Open University in Wales.

[aoa id=”1″]Cowshed, whose promise is to only deliver campaigns that work, for clients they love and causes they believe in, has experienced incredible growth over the last five years. It’s their passionate approach to their work that has won the hearts of their clients.  In only five years, Cowshed has grown from a team of one to fifteen permanent staff achieving a £1.25million turnover. Working across all sectors and all populations, Cowshed develops behaviour change campaigns that represent society and encourage people to do things differently.[/aoa]

Vicki Spencer-Francis, Managing Director of Cowshed said:

‘We celebrate our fifth birthday this year and wanted to mark the occasion with a strong move to make sure we deliver campaigns that are truly representative of modern Wales. Our clients deserve that and the different societies that make up Wales deserve that too.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved in the past five years but we miss the diversity of thinking, skills and experience that a more representative team could bring and this needs to change. How can we expect to speak to the people of Wales if we, ourselves, don’t represent the diverse spectrum of life that is modern day Wales?”

Cowshed has teamed up with The Race Council of Wales to deliver the internship. Uzo Iwobi OBE from The Race Council said: “Race Council Cymru is delighted to partner with Cowshed to launch this opportunity for young people from diverse backgrounds. We encourage young people from all backgrounds to apply and be a part of this life changing initiative. Applications will be welcomed from all protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.”

The internship is supported by national PR and communications membership bodies PRCA and CIPR.
