Deloitte has made four senior promotions in its tax practice in Wales, by promoting a new partner and three directors.

[aoa id=”1″]The newly promoted partner is Tess Williams who leads the global employer services (GES) practice across Deloitte’s Cardiff and Bristol offices, a team of more than 40 specialists who advise organisations in their capacity as employers from a reward and mobility perspective.[/aoa]

“I’m delighted to have been promoted to partner and to have been a part of our GES local practice’s success story to date. The practice looks very different today than it did only a few years ago and we continue to draw more specialists into our local team,” said Williams.

“Our GES practice is a great success and it’s fantastic to see our clients and their workforce benefit not only from our regional expertise but also an expanding range of services. I’m very excited about the years ahead and seeing the practice go from strength to strength.”

Williams joined Deloitte in 2002 from Arthur Andersen having started her career in tax consulting with an apprenticeship after A-levels.

The three directors promoted are all from the Wales tax practice.

Debbie Hatherell is a director in Deloitte’s indirect taxes team. She specialises in advising manufacturers on a wide variety of issues including the VAT and customs duties impacts of complex supply chains. She has a particular focus on aerospace and defence businesses and takes a keen interest in Industry 4.0 technologies, authoring several articles on the tax implications of the fourth industrial revolution.

A graduate of Cardiff University, Debbie joined Deloitte in 2006 from HMRC.

Jamie Bedford is a director in business tax and heads up the transfer pricing practice across Deloitte’s Cardiff and Bristol offices. Jamie and his team help companies in Wales as well as across the UK understand the tax considerations of their international business dealings. They advise all types of organisations, from family owned businesses making their first international expansion to the largest multinationals. Jamie also has a national role and heads up Deloitte’s diverted profits tax team in the UK.

A former senior inspector of taxes, Jamie joined Deloitte from HMRC in 2015.

Joanne Hale is a director in tax management consulting and leads Deloitte’s Cardiff-based centre of excellence which is responsible for ensuring the firm’s personal tax clients meet all their compliance obligations. She has led Deloitte’s programme to produce high quality output using the latest technology and is at the forefront of their drive to be ready for Making Tax Digital.

Joanne joined Deloitte in 2015 from Smith & Williamson.

Wayne Harvey, senior partner for Deloitte in Wales, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Tess to the partner group and Debbie, Jamie and Joanne to the leadership team. These promotions are very well-deserved and they’ve each made an exceptional contribution to our clients, our people and our tax practice in Wales. These promotions highlight not only the investment we make in our people but the importance we place on nurturing talent and the opportunities we create for them to excel.

“We continue to grow our business and now have over 1,200 people in Wales, in fact we’re still hiring. Our tax centre of excellence is just one of the specialist functions housed in our delivery centre in Cardiff. By bringing together this expertise, we’re able to serve our clients in the best and most valuable ways possible.”
