GlobalWelsh, Wales’ global diaspora community, today announced the appointment of Catrin Thomas to the board to drive the grassroots organisation’s global communications strategy as it gears up to scale.

    Catrin Thomas

Catrin has held senior international communications roles at Bloomberg, CNN International and BBC World News and earlier this year established her own strategic affairs consultancy. She currently works as a strategic adviser to the City of London Corporation’s Innovation and Growth Directorate and recently launched the government-backed Green Finance Institute, whose CEO is Catrin’s sister, Dr. Rhian-Mari Thomas.

Catrin grew up in the Vale of Glamorgan and attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf before studying at Swansea and Cardiff Universities. Now based in London, she has spent time living and working in New York and Dublin, and brings 20 years’ experience managing both B2B and B2C integrated global communications and influencer campaigns across the media, financial services, technology and non-profit sectors.

Catrin says: “I was fortunate to be introduced to the ambitious, market-oriented initiatives of GlobalWelsh to engage the diaspora to drive economic benefit to Wales a few years ago, and I’m delighted to join the experienced and passionate individuals who make up the board. I look forward to playing a role in shaping and articulating the compelling vision and mission of GlobalWelsh internationally.”

Catrin’s appointment to the board of GlobalWelsh marks the second this year, following the announcement in March that senior HR executive Sara Harper-Holton had accepted a board position.

GlobalWelsh founder and CEO Walter May says: “As we gear up to scale our offering to members, we’ll need to broaden our reach and amplify our message further to reach diaspora in all corners of the earth. Catrin’s wealth of international corporate communications experience, coupled with her passion and enthusiasm, will help us achieve this and we’re very excited to have her on board!”
