Headhunting business City Executive Search has appointed a new Associate Director to its Cardiff-based team.

Alex Pughe, 45, joins the firm after a long and distinguished career in executive search, working with some of the world’s most recognisable brands.

City Executive Search, which was launched in 2018, is a joint venture between Yolk Recruitment’s Dale Williams and Duncan Powell and talent search specialist Mike Lee. It was established to help organisations fill critical executive roles to drive business growth.

The firm, which has bases in Cardiff and London, has seen 200% growth over the last 12 months. It says this has mainly been fuelled by the demand for senior talent in the Fintech sector, which is “booming” in Wales.

Alex joins a team that also provides executive search services to organisations in a range of sectors including information technology, human resources, sales and marketing.

He previously worked for Robert Half in Cardiff, where he first met City Executive Search co-founder Mike Lee. Before that, he spent nearly 20 years working in the city of London for a mixture of large US recruitment agencies and boutique headhunting firms.

Alex will take a lead role in developing the City Executive Search client base across the UK, and undertaking executive hires across various C-Suite disciplines.

Alex, who will be working with clients including Wealthify, Oval and Confused, said:

“From Admiral becoming Wales’ first FTSE 100 business to the growth of price comparison websites such as Go Compare and Confused.com and the genesis of disrupters such as Wealthify and Delio, Wales has long been at the forefront of the fintech sector’s development.

“We want to ensure that businesses operating in this space can access the very best talent to ensure it continues to thrive.

“We also want to demonstrate to businesses thinking of relocating their operations to Wales, or establishing a presence here, that there is a vibrant and growing talent pool they can access.

“Wales must continue to leverage this competitive advantage, and central to this will be making it easy for firms to access the very best talent in the sector.

“I am looking forward to using my knowledge of the market, my passion for identifying talent and my insight into client and candidate needs, to help City Executive Search become the leading talent partner in this exciting space.”

Co-founder of City Executive Search Mike Lee said:

“Finding the right executive talent is vital for businesses operating in an increasingly global and competitive environment.

“Alex brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts to our team. Having worked with him previously, I know he will have a big impact on our business as we work towards our vision of becoming the leading Executive Search firm based in Wales.”
